Quick start guide

MuseScore edition.

Cantai sings the lyrics in your MuseScore Studio score. No manual phoneme editing, no fiddling with MIDI: write the words under the notes and hear them sung.

Getting Cantai

Cantai for MuseScore Studio is sold through MuseHub, at musehub.com/muse-sounds/cantai: $9.99 a month, or $299.99 for a lifetime license. Both plans include all voice types and unlimited local renders.

Cantai for MuseScore Studio is a separate purchase from the Dorico + Sibelius license.

Get Cantai on MuseHub

Requirements

  • MuseScore Studio 4.6.5 or later
  • MuseHub 3.0 or later, open and running in the background while you use Cantai

The full list, and what happens on a computer that doesn't qualify, is on System requirements.

Make your score sing

  1. Get Cantai from MuseHub, stay signed in to your Muse account there and keep MuseHub running. Restart MuseScore Studio after installing. There is no license key and no cantai.app account to set up.
  2. Select the first note in your vocal part and press Cmd/Ctrl+L to enter lyrics. Press Space to advance after a complete word, or - (hyphen) after each syllable of a multi-syllable word.
  3. Open the Mixer (F10) and choose a Cantai voice from the Sound menu of your vocal part.
  4. Press play.

Hyphenating syllables (e.g. hal- le- lu- jah) helps Cantai map phonemes correctly. If a word sounds unexpected, check the spelling: misspelled lyrics produce incorrect phonemes.

Online rendering

MuseScore renders locally when your computer supports it, with no quota. On computers that aren't compatible with local rendering (e.g. Windows ARM devices), it renders online instead, with 180 minutes of new audio a week, reset every Monday at 00:00 UTC. Playing back passages you already rendered does not count.

To use the quota efficiently, turn off Automatically process online sounds in the background in Preferences → Audio & MIDI → Online sounds, and render only the sections you need.

Questions

Cantai isn't appearing or there's no audio in MuseScore — what should I do?

Check three things: (1) lyrics are present on the notes, (2) your weekly quota has not been exceeded, and (3) MuseHub is running in the background. To reset the connection, close both MuseScore Studio and MuseHub completely, then reopen MuseHub first, followed by MuseScore Studio. Repeat up to 3 times if needed.

Do notes without lyrics get sung?

No. Cantai sings words, so notes without lyrics won't produce a voice. Assign lyrics to the notes you want sung.

Who do I ask for help?

Problems with Cantai inside MuseScore Studio are ours, the same as in Dorico and Sibelius: start with the FAQ, or ask us through the Help chat on any page. Purchases, subscriptions, your Muse account login and the MuseHub app itself are handled by Muse, because they sell and bill the MuseScore plans: reach them at support.musehub.com.
